Welcome to the Penrith RSL Auxiliary
Brief History Of The Penrith Auxiliary
The precursor to the current Penrith RSL Auxiliary was formed in 1916 by a group of ladies who formed the “Penrith Girls Comfort Club”, this later on in 1922 became “Women’s Auxiliary” of the RSSILA, and now the RSL Auxiliary. Their work ran in parallel to that of the Penrith Soldiers Club of the RSSILA.
The main purpose of the “Penrith Girls Comfort Club” was to send comfort parcels to the Penrith soldiers serving on the Western Front during WWI. The parcels consisted of such items as woollen socks, soap, cakes and others items as would be missed by the soldiers whilst serving overseas.
For many decades, the sub-Branch has provided significant pension, welfare and hospital visitations for members, and members of other sub-Branches.
What We Do
We do it all… Have I got your interest yet?
There is so much to tell you of what the RSL Auxiliary get up to, but I promise to keep it brief. (You will have to join us to find out more).
We hold annual Easter, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day raffles and other fundraising activities including our Bi-Annual Gala Auctions, attended ANZAC Services and sold ANZAC badges, attended the Conference for the Central Council of RSL Women’s Auxiliary, bus trips ie to Camden, the Hindu Temple, Fuzzy Grape Winery and to Bowral for the Tulip Festival. In between fundraising events, we attend other Auxiliaries and Charity functions.
If you would like to attend any of these events, or volunteer to support our fundraising activities, or if you are interested in joining the RSL Auxiliary and sharing in the community spirit and service, please contact Marilyn Moore on 4722 2367.
Our monthly meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 10am in the Penrith RSL sub-Branch meeting room.
On a personal note, I would like to express my gratitude, thanks and appreciation to the ladies of the Women’s Auxiliary for their hard work and dedication in caring for others, their friendship and support, and for their commitment to the many activities we undertake.
